海角社区 recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Westheimer Southern Oklahoma Nursing Education Center (SONEC), a significant step forward in expanding access to rural healthcare and higher education in the region.
鈥淭he groundbreaking marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Murray State College and the communities we proudly serve,鈥 said Dr. Tim Faltyn, 海角社区 President. 鈥淭he SONEC reflects our commitment to preparing students for high-demand careers and addressing the critical healthcare needs of southern Oklahoma.鈥
The event featured remarks from community and education leaders, including Ardmore City Manager Kevin Boatright, Mercy President Daryle Voss, SouthernTech Superintendent Dr. Eric Ward, 海角社区 Dean of Nursing Malaika Horton and the OU Interim Dean of Nursing Dr. Melissa Craft. Four students also shared stories about the transformative educational opportunities SONEC will offer.
海角社区 Regent Keith Gray praised the college鈥檚 vision: "President Faltyn鈥檚 ability to see a need, innovate and convene partners is truly remarkable.鈥
The SONEC project is a collaborative initiative designed to strengthen the regional workforce by providing streamlined pathways from high school to college to career. With 85% of Murray State nursing graduates staying in the area, the impact on rural healthcare will be both immediate and long-lasting.

Construction of the SONEC is underway and represents a bold investment in southern Oklahoma's health, education and economic future.
